I actually passionately adore Johnny-- as I do many nicknames. I see no childishness when a grown man answers to them... I do see a hint of childish behavior if and when he begins to refuse to be summoned by Danny because he is "too old for it" (which translates to being "too good for it," in my eyes.)

That being said, I woul never endorse the use of a diminutive (Johnny, Billy, Frank, Ben, etc) as a legal firstname... the handsome charm that was originally held will no longer be present; juvenile and unprofessional are two traits that will be acquired instead.
