Juneau is an alteration of Jouineau (via Juineau) which is derived from Jouin, from the Latin name Jovinus derived from Jovis ‘Jupiter’. His ancestor was either
Jean Jouineau/Juineau from La Rochelle in Charente-Maritime (Poitou-Charentes) or Pierre Jouineau/Juineau from Angoulins in Charente-Maritime, both of whom arrived in Québec around 1655-1660.
