Alison is the original which is also why I like it better. And I wouldn't want her to go back to Alison because even though I like it, I don't like it enough to use :/ Thanks for answering!

Oh, I guess I never knew that. I always thought Allison was the original. I know way more Allisons then Alisons.
And I guess on the nickname thing... I was give a very short first name (Eva). It's short and cute but I wish my parents would have named me Evangeline so I could have been Eva or Angel or Lina or some other nickname. I just think that longer is better, especially when you're planning on using the nickname form anyway. It's personal though, not always applicable to everyone else.

Yeah, Allison got more common and still is. I always wanted a long, frilly name as well :P
