Miriam is sometimes said to mean "sea of bitterness" but it's also said to mean "rebelliousness", and "wished for child" or "strong, firm".
It could also be an Egyptian name (since Moses his sister Miriam and their people were born in Egypt) perhaps derived in part from mry "beloved" or mr "love".
So if you did really like it you could choose which ever meaning you prefered! :)
