Ari and Nicholas's popularity has taken a serious fall in the last few years. They are passionate supporters of half-breed rights, for one thing, and Ari has not been shy about showing it. She has been a participant in many half-breed speech rallies and forums, as has Nicholas, and Romolo Magro and his family have become fixtures in their lives. Their children pay together and are good friends, which Ari uses to her advantage in her speeches about the issue. If children can get along, she says, then we adults should be ashamed not to be able to.
She is also an outspoken supporter of the appointees. She believes the whole Great Matter is just like her children fighting over a toy that it doesn't matter who has because both have one just like it. She is honestly astounded it has gone this far, and only worries that her sister might be the next target of the old nobility. After all, Minnie is the ultimate appointee. Nicholas agrees with her about the Great Matter, but is not so worried about Minnie. She may have been appointed, but it was by the people, by the very old nobility now acting like spoiled children. HE does not believe they will extend themselves so far as to say they were wrong when so clearly they were not.
The entire situation is worrying enough that Minnie pulled Ari and Nicholas both off of foreign duty and have them working exclusively on internal affairs. Though both have been working tirelessly, they still found time to be together enough that Ari found ehrself pregnant. She was excited but worried about what the stress of her life might do to her baby. All fears proved unfounded when she delivered a beautiful, healthy baby girl. She and Nicholas named her Callista Theodora Lucia. She looks more like Nicholas, but she has Ari's darker hair.
Ari and Nicholas's older children all adored their new little sister. Ione and Marius both like to take care of her. Ione has been coming along nicely in her magical studies and other studies. She has become wuite a lovely little girl, and her three favorite things are horses, gardens, and stories. She often rides with her uncle Demetrius and cousin Nerissa, with whom she is close. Marius doesn't care as much for horses, but he loves gardens and likes nothing more than spending an afternoon digging and weeding. Though he is only five, he shows skill. He seems to have some magical ability, and Ari has been arragning lessons for him to see how it will develop. Olivia is fascinated by her new sister and loves to hold her. She is still the quietest and most observant of Ari and Nicholas's children, and though she loves to play she loves nothing so much as a good song or story. Her eyes are beginning to develop silver threads, and Ari and Nicholas are already talking of havign her study with her aunt Hermione when the time comes. Ari secretly also has decided to teach her diplomacy and possibly the spy's arts, as she can already see the necessary skills developing.
Right after she had healed enough from the birth, Minnie came to Ari and asked her privately to take up her spy's cloak again. She needs her most skilled spy, whom she can absolutely trust, watching some of the most outspoken leaders on both sides of the Great Matter and on the anti-half-breed side of that debate. Minnie fears what they may do, what real danger they may pose. So Ari once again became a part of the spy game. Nicholas does not approve, thinking she should not put herself in such a dangerous position, but he knows Ari feels she must. So as long as it does not interfere with any of her other duties as diplomat and mother, he has stayed silent.
