[Surname] Re: Kubay / Kubai: Does anyone know the origin or meaning of this possibly Ukrainian, Russian, somehow slavic surnames?
in reply to a message by Kevin Kara
Kubay was my father's surname and he said it was originally Kubayov (sp?) before he emigrated here. I don't know what it means, but Kubay is also an Indian or African meat pie of some sort.
Kara means black in Turkish. Chai means tea in Turkish and Russian. And there is a tribal region in southern Russia, called Karachai, which is where my father was from.
That's all I can tell you. Good luck, and congrats!
