I think it's funny that you mentioned the fantasy-esque-ness of the name. I've been trying for years to write a futuristic fantasy story (a tidge like
The Giver) about a boy named
Cyprian and his sister,
Aglaia. So I'd definitely agree with you on that sense. :D
I prefer
Aglaia to
Aglaya; it looks tidier to me, just like
Leila looks nicer than
Layla to my eyes. I think the name is absolutely gorgeous (though I wouldn't use it, since I've already got an Aglaia--she just lives in my head, heh).
I'd probably go nicknameless on it, though I do like the idea of
Aggie and
Laia. And if I was feeling silly, I'd call her Lai-la-Lai, like the chorus of "The Boxer" by
Simon and Garfunkel.
