Christmas Letter 2011
Happy Holidays to everybody! A year after adopting Mateo, Giulia, Zinedine, Michel, Emilie, and Roman, we have moved to a new, larger house in Paris. Soon after they arrived, Zinedine, Michel, and Andrei quickly bonded over soccer and started school together in September. Michel likes sports most, while Zinedine is more into school. He gets very good grades, and excels at math. Emilie and Sebastian are also very close. They have birthday parties for Emilie's dolls and Sebastian's stuffed animals nearly every week. Emilie and Michel swim together.
Giulia was pretty shy at first, and still is. She goes to the ballet class that Natalia teaches every Saturday morning and loves it. We took her to the ballet as a special birthday treat, and she wants to be like the ballerinas she saw there. Her mother has written to her several times, and is glad she is doing well. She has grown nearly two inches since she came here. She and Roman love to walk the dogs and play with them in the backyard. Roman started figure skating at the rink Natalia skates at, and they go every other night for practice. He has nightmares sometimes, but is adjusting well. Mateo, the youngest at age 1, is very alert and likes watching things through the window.
Everyone is pretty much fluent in French now, and we've been speaking some English to the kids to. We speak Arabic to Michel and Zinedine, and Natalia speaks Spanish to Mateo. Zinedine, Michel, Andrei, and Giulia play soccer with the team that Ben helps coach, and their younger siblings like to join them practicing in the backyard. They are all very excited for Christmas, Giulia especially, because we're going to see the Nutcracker. They all love playing in the snow.
