I didn't have the guts to ask (lol), so I came up with the assumption that it was "darling." I still think of it as that, because I think it sounds prettier.

That was my first assumption, then I thought it might me desired. Not that is was extraordinarily important, but it has always disturbed me.

I bet that's why lots of boards just refer to family members as "H," "W," "D," and "S."
