It depends on the letter. A for Anne doesn't sound very nice, but I think Q for Quentin is cool. In my experience, only people with very unusual names do this. Generally using the initials of the first and middle names sounds nice. I have a friend who uses the first and second letter of her first name (but it should be mentioned that the second letter of her first name is also the first letter of her middle name.)
