I think of "Am I a ...?" and I remember another naming site where the parents were planning to name their dd Amaya Johnson. I and several others tried to convince them that it wasn't a good idea. I'm not sure the parents-to-be took our advice.

Overall, I have no problems with Amaya. I just think the surname needs to be taken into consideration. ;-)

I've never heard the name pronounced a-MAY-a but if that's a common pronunciation where you live, you could get away with it.
