I have the same unfortunate association in my head as you.
I like Valkyrie as a name. I even like Unity as a name. But Unity Mitford just ruined them for me. I'm waiting for some other association to come along so I can scrub her out of my mind. But I'm not holding my breath.
And I second your choice of Valerie, by the way. An underappreciated gem.
