It's been a year since Melissa joined our family. She had a baby boy six months ago, and she named him Corbin Matthew. They are both doing wonderfully, and we are so lucky to have them as part of our family.
As you warned us, it wasn't always easy in the beginning. Missy was grateful to be adopted, especially since she had gotten pregnant and had thought no one would adopt her. But it was clear that she was depressed and didn't think she could handle herself, let alone a baby. The first two months were difficult; we all made an effort, but she wasn't very responsive to our efforts to bond. Sometimes I would find her playing with Nico and Cloey, but whenever one of them started crying it would affect her greatly and she'd leave the room immediately. When she was five months pregnant, her baby had complications. We rushed to the hospital, and thankfully the problems were over in a few days. Before she was discharged they told her she was having a boy. It was amazing, that was the first time I really saw her smile, and when we drove home, she was talking and talking. And she stayed that way for the rest of her pregnancy.
Now Missy is a great mother to Corbin, and I watch him while she is in school, where she an honors student. Cloey and Nico love having a big sister that plays with them (according to them she isn't as strict as me) and a baby brother to cuddle. We can't imagine our life without them!
