I used to suggest
Ailsa all the time on another site. But no one seemed to like it so I gave up. I'm thrilled someone else loves it too. :-)
I pronounce it the same way you do, "AYL-suh." Growing up I was addicted to BBC dramas on PBS (U.S.). Many of the programs were sponsored by (or given a grant by) the
Ailsa Mellon
Bruce Foundation (or something like that). That's where I first heard it. Utterly lovely and, as you say, spunky at the same time.
My standby combination for it is
Ailsa Margaret, but I've never put any real effort into finding a mn for it, to be honest. From your list I love:
Ailsa Victoria (
Queen Vic named her dd
Alice, which is similar)
Ailsa ClaireAilsa Madeline
Hmmm. Let's see. How about:
Ailsa Margot /
Mairead /
Margery /

Ale severity?")

What say you?
