See... Billie and Stevie weren't for boys. I don't think they sound quite so babyish on girls... especially since I'm not sure I could saddle a kid with Wilhelmina

Eh. The fact that they're girls doesn't change a thing for me, but it might make it worse. Not only are they nicknames, but they're boyish. Your poor daughter may very well get tired of hearing "That's a boy's name." For Billie, what about Willa, Wilma, Wilda, Willemina, Willow, Bilhah or Bilyana?

oh no - I would infinitely rather explain 'my names Billie - as in Billie Holiday' than "my names - any of the listed alternatives.....". With no offence to any of the Wilhemina's out there - but Billie is just so much nicer a name :)

I don't really like any of those. I think Billie is pretty reasonable compared to what some girls are called now.. Plus Billie and Stevie ARE legit nicknames for girls. Even if they are used mainly on boys..
