I know, when I first read it a while ago, I was little surprised too, but think of how many Marlies, Marloes, Marianne, Marleen and other Mar-names are out there. Maria Elisabeth would be the official name, but they would go by Marlies. :)

I like a lot of these names, although a few are a little too dated.
