there's a German surname written Mittermeyer, Mittermeier, Mittermayer or Mittermaier - always with two t.
The meaning is "middle + farmer". The name is typical south German and Austrian.
There is a famous German ex-skiing star Rosi Mittermaier, and a famous German commedian Michael Mittermeier.
