Sorry, the Hindi name they're thinking of is Rani, not Rina. As Anneza says, in most cases it is an abbreviation or nick-name for Katrina or Katerina etc., which is of uncertain meaning, having probably come through Greek from a lost Anatolian language.

Rina/Reena does exist in north India, but probably as a reflex of the European usage
