It got "old fashioned." Like Mildred, Harold, and Frances et cetera. And the nn Frankie did too.
Francis is in my family (many times over, along with Frances too), and I'd use it myself if I had a son and there weren't names I liked more.
Just a couple of weeks ago, I saw a guy working the cash register at Fry's Electronics with Francis on his name tag. You can never be sure if the tag names are real, but I was happy to imagine it was. And he was about 24-ish, and heartrendingly dark and handsome, too. However I would have forgotten him by now, if not for his stylish classic name.
