You Say/You Think
I've never played, and I'm really curious as to what people think of these names, so here goes!"Meet my daughter, Tertia Spirit."
You say:
You think:"This is my son, Horatio Kolbe." (Kolbe is pronunced about like KOH-bah)
You say:
You think:"May I present my daughter, Susan Arcadia?"
You say:
You think:"These are our twins, Eva Alexandrine and Friedrich Joachim." (EE-vah, not AY-vah or EH-vah--and Friedrich would be called Fritz.)

"Meet my daughter, Tertia Spirit."
You say: What a pretty name!
You think: I really like Tertia, though I'd never use it myself. I have very bad associations with a girl named Spirit, so I don't like it at all."This is my son, Horatio Kolbe." (Kolbe is pronunced about like KOH-bah)
You say: Hello, little boy!
You think: Poor thing. Kolby or Colby would be cute, but KOH-bah is weird, and Horatio *might* be okay as a middle name. At least they call him Ray!"May I present my daughter, Susan Arcadia?"
You say: Ooh, what a neat middle name!
You think: Will people EVER quit using Susan? Ugh! Arcadia is very cool as a mn, but I've also never seen that Joan of Arcadia show nor do I know how popular it is, so that might affect this name."These are our twins, Eva Alexandrine and Friedrich Joachim." (EE-vah, not AY-vah or EH-vah--and Friedrich would be called Fritz.)
You say: Fritz, that's awesome! (then to be nice) Eva is very sweet too.
You think: Wow, I think Friedrich nn Fritz is too cool. I'd never have the guts to use it though. Paired with Joachim is nuts though. Fritz and Eva go well together. I definitely like Eva better than Ava, but it's a little too close and I wonder if it won't start flying up the charts soon. I'm not even gonna think about another stupid Alex- name. They all need to die for awhile.

"Meet my daughter, Tertia Spirit."
You say: What an interesting name.
You think: Doesn't sound like a real name, not very pretty sounding...poor kid. "This is my son, Horatio Kolbe." (Kolbe is pronunced about like KOH-bah)
You say: How unique. Cool name.
You think: A little too out there for my tastes, but not horrible. "May I present my daughter, Susan Arcadia?"
You say: Pretty.
You think: Susan is boring and Arcadia is weird. Not horrible, though. "These are our twins, Eva Alexandrine and Friedrich Joachim." (EE-vah, not AY-vah or EH-vah--and Friedrich would be called Fritz.)
You say: Great names.

"Meet my daughter, Tertia Spirit."
You say: What an unusual name. Tertia is lovely.
You think: Tertia is lovely though I wonder how many people mispronounce it. Not keen on Spirit at all."This is my son, Horatio Kolbe." (Kolbe is pronunced about like KOH-bah)
You say: You don't see Horatio much anymore. Interesting combo.
You think: And why not, it's a good solid name, no good nn's unfortunately. I always prn Kolbe like the cheese. "May I present my daughter, Susan Arcadia?"
You say: What a beautiful name!
You think: What a beautiful name! Though I think I like Arcadia better than Susan."These are our twins, Eva Alexandrine and Friedrich Joachim." (EE-vah, not AY-vah or EH-vah--and Friedrich would be called Fritz.)
You say: Alexandrine is a refreshing change from Alexia and its variants. Your son has such an unusual combination.
You think: Eva's plain/popular, Alexandrine IS refreshing, though not my style. I do like Joachim but paired with Friedrich? Odd. Fritz is an adorable nn.

You say: Nice name
You think: Her mother must be a hippy, poor kid"This is my son, Horatio Kolbe." (Kolbe is pronunced about like KOH-bah)
You say: Nice name
You think: HAHAHAHA are you kidding me? Poor kid"May I present my daughter, Susan Arcadia?"
You say: Nice name
You think: Susan isn't bad but I don't care for Arcadia"These are our twins, Eva Alexandrine and Friedrich Joachim." (EE-vah, not AY-vah or EH-vah--and Friedrich would be called Fritz.)
You say: Nice names, I love Eva
You think: Love Eva so why did she ruin is with Alexandrine? Atleast she doesn't have to tell people her middle name. And Friedrich? Poor kid

"Meet my daughter, Tertia Spirit."
You say: How different!
You think: Very different... Tertia is okay, but Tertia Spirit? Sounds like her parents want her to become a clairvoyant."This is my son, Horatio Kolbe." (Kolbe is pronunced about like KOH-bah)
You say: Horatio is a wonderful name!
You think: Same as above. I wonder if Kolbe is ever pronounced correctly?"May I present my daughter, Susan Arcadia?"
You say: Wow! That's an interesting combination of names.
You think: Susan is so bland... it's strange to see it with an "adventurous" name like Arcadia."These are our twins, Eva Alexandrine and Friedrich Joachim." (EE-vah, not AY-vah or EH-vah--and Friedrich would be called Fritz.)
You say: They both have wonderful names, especially Friedrich. Is your family German?
You think: I love Fritz; it always reminds me of "The Swiss Family Robinson." Eva is a bit simple, but pretty.

You say: Wow that's a very unique name!
You think: And I'm so glad it's not mine!"This is my son, Horatio Kolbe." (Kolbe is pronunced about like KOH-bah)
You say: Horatio, that's an unusual name!
You think: Not to mention whatever they said the boy's middle name was..."May I present my daughter, Susan Arcadia?"
You say: What a cool name, I love Arcadia!
You think: I do, and I would've definitely picked Arcadia instead of Susan as the girl's first name."These are our twins, Eva Alexandrine and Friedrich Joachim." (EE-vah, not AY-vah or EH-vah--and Friedrich would be called Fritz.)
You say: Oh, those are lovely names!
You think: Yeah, well, except for Friedrich... Friedrich?!

Notes...I don't want these to affect anyone's judgement, but I just wanted to share a few bits about the names (particularly the ones that aren't so familiar), since I think some of them are rather interesting.Tertia (pronunced TER-sha) is a real name--it means "third" in Latin. Spirit is just becoming a word name I really like. If I hadn't used it, I would have put Tertia Silence, because Silence is one of my all-time favourite virtue names. (It has history, too--it's been used a long time.) Kolbe is the surname of a Polish saint, St. Maximilian Kolbe, who died in Auschwitz in the place of another man. Horatio is an important name for me, and his nickname would be Ray, which is not only my and my father's middle name but also my great-great-grandfather's first name. Susan Arcadia has little significance beyond the fact that I think it sounds lovely and that I love Susan. I also like Arcadia, though I prefer Arcadie. (Susan Arcadie sounds stilted to me, though.)Eva and Friedrich are probably the weirdest set--for the way I came up with them rather than the names themselves. I had a dream in which I had twins Eva and Frederica, and I think that Eva and Friedrich sounded just as nice. Rather ridiculous on my part. This information is not something I'd tell anyone who asked my child's name, though, which is why I did not include it with the names. Don't let it cloud your opinions, heh.Array
