Lucas and I met in high school when I was a sophomore and he was a junior. At first, we were more acquaintances than anything else, since he had his own circle of friends and I had mine. As luck would have it, we were in the same algebra class that year, and Lucas, fulfilling the dumb jock stereotype, needed help. I ended up tutoring him for the rest of the year, and we grew closer. We hung out a lot during the summer, and right before school began again, he asked me out. We dated all through my junior year but broke up after he graduated, since neither of us thought a long-distance relationship would work out (he was going to California for college).

Lucas and my brother Christian had gotten to be pretty good friends while Lucas and I were going out, so when I decided to move to the U.S. for college as well, Christian phoned him and let him know. During the second semester of my freshman year, guess who I found waiting outside my dorm? Apparently, Lucas had transferred from UCLA to Harvard to be with me, because he wanted to give us another try. I, of course, said yes.

All in all, we've been together for almost seven years. Just after I graduated last year, we moved in together into an apartment in Boston. Not long after that, he proposed (on Valentine's Day, too! Sometimes Lucas just has no imagination whatsoever.). We've been married for about six months now. We both have steady jobs: I'm working at the Boston Globe as a journalist, and he's a graphic designer for an ad agency.
