This is my son Cotton
You say: That's a great name!
You think: She's a Southerner. It's very original, masculine and gentle..good for her, choosing a namey word name that's different. I'd use it if I felt it suited me, though it doesn't. Wish I knew a name with similar qualities that did suit me.
This is my son Bartholomew
You say: Mm. Hi Bartholomew. Is it a family name?
You think: Family name. Gotta be. Bart Simpson.
This is my son Cornelius (Neely)
You say: Wow, haven't heard that name much. Cool!
You think: You're a great namer.
This is my son Florian
You say: That's a cool name.
You think: A little cold, even. But stylish as hell.
This is my daughter Magnolia
You say: Ah, how pretty.
You think: and they can call her Maggie. It's Southern sounding as heck, but if she is Southern, that's perfect.
This is my daughter Octavia
You say: Lovely; why Octavia -- is she your eighth?
You think: Fanciful unless she's significantly 8th something.
This is my daughter Beatrix
You say: Neat, haven't heard that in a while
You think: of Beatrix Potter. It's kind of staid, but alright, and uncommon.
This is my daughter Eulalia
You say: I didn't lay your daughter.. Oh, her name is Eulalia! How pretty.
You think: Old fashioned name trend. It could grow on me, but I'd have to call her Eulie or Eula to be comfy with it.
