Although Evander, with his wife-and-three-kids life, has always represented the pinnacle of staid upper-class propriety, his younger brother Dominic was quite the opposite: a lifelong wild child able and willing to burn through piles of family money. Dominic passed away last year, leaving in his wake a confusing mixture of emotions for all those who knew him, and an 11-year-old son whose mother died when he was young. Evander and Lina knew they had no reasonable choice but to take the boy in. Adjusting to this new life has been difficult for Evander and Lina; for Sandro, Lilac, and Tarquin; and for King himself, used to life with a permissive and unpredictable parent, and prone to acting out to gain some control of the situation he’s found himself in.

Lili was finally allowed to move over to Paris upon turning 18, and she’s well on her way to becoming one of the it-girls of the French fashion world. She recently started dating a fellow model, son of a former French president, who will soon be flying back to New York with Lili to face down her parents and her horde of little sisters (he’s been practicing matching their names to their faces for weeks). Esti isn’t particularly interested in her sister’s boyfriend — she’s already busy working hard to prepare for college — but Juni and Verdi are dying to meet him. Remi’s mostly interested in drinking chocolate milk and persuading her parents to get a puppy.

Reva and Archer hadn’t intended to have a child together, but… oops. The couple dote on their little girl, although Lea-Rani and Jules-Amar are less impressed. Even their time in Switzerland is less of an escape than it used to be, though, because their father has recently started seeing a woman — age-appropriate, at least, much to the kids’ relief. Their potential future step-mother is a no-nonsense professor originally from Argentina, and secretly they might quite like her.

Peregrine has once again struck up a romance with a co-star — although by this point, he has had to accept that he will never again be cast as a handsome romantic lead, and is more likely to end up with the role of the handsome romantic lead’s father. She has proved an important maternal figure for Vienna, whose mother, it turns out, is not particularly interested in mothering — Charity is glad to feel that she can pay her ex-husband’s daughter a little less attention now. Cary, meanwhile, is finishing up a degree in English at the University of Cambridge, where he met his girlfriend, a Music student and virtuoso violinist.
People who always specified that they’re the “Suzie M. who spells her name with a Z” name their daughters Tinkerbell.
