In 1980, the WMO decided to retire the names Elena, Gloria, Juan, Kate, Nicholas, Odette, Sam, and Teresa. They were replaced with Erika, Grace, Joaquin, Kimberly, Nelson, Ora, Steve, and Tina for the 1985 season, respectively.
