The game requires each player to receive a name from the previous player and either shorten or lengthen it, but it must be a real name. To keep the game going, each player needs to change the name at least four times before passing it to the next player.

from Adelaide -- rules didn't give any specifics about how many letters could be changed per name so I just kinda rolled with it
