I have been staring at and reading all the CAF posts, but I still dont get it. How do you come up with the names? What does CAF mean??

CAF means Create a Family, you just make the names up :D

DD: Darling Daughter
DS: Darling Son
DW: Darling Wife
DH: Darling Husband
Or insert pet name starting with D of choice. They're basically the members of the family. So if you've got one that says something like DS/DD, it means you've got boy/girl twins to name.
Does that make sense?
