There has been much upheavel in the last two years in Northwood. Prior to that, everything was the same. Two years Prince Ansel died at age 120. King Alphonso was very sad and insisted on having a lavish funeral. King Alfonso was in his 80s and not too well himself. He died a year later. Upon his death, Prince Apollo inherited the throne of Northwood. However in a historic move, Prince Apollo abdicated the throne of Northwood, since he had been living in Cloudhill for years and his wife the Empress of Cloudhill couldn't leave. Prince Apollo declared that he needed to stay with the Empress Anushka. Since he abidicated, his oldest son Prince Armel became the new king. Prince Armel having been living in Northwood for over ten years to prepare to be king. Even though everyone knew this would happen, it was still surprising to some. King Armel and his wife Queen Jehanne are doing a good job. The public enjoys having a young royal family, especially when Prince Amelina was born. The paparazzi tries to write stories about a rivalry between Apollo and Armel, but aren't succeeding due to the close relationship between father and son.
The rest of Empress Anushka's family is doing well. Princess Alena is still in training to be the empress of Cloudhill. She and Gabriel welcomed their second child, Princes Galena. Princess Anise married her fiance King Henry and is now the Queen of Greywulf. She and Henry have two sons Prince Harlen and Prince Heinrick. Grand Duchess Nadia and her husband Prince Audric welcomed two more children and Nadia published a volume of poetry. Princess Astra is engaged to a knight of Cloudhill. She is the only of her siblings who will never be a ruler of a country. Her parents are thrilled that she will remain in Cloudhill as they miss three of their children.
Calliope's oldest daughter Princess Amandine and her husband Baron Claude are watching their children grow up. Their oldest son Cormack is engaged to an heiress named Judita Chandor. His parents are thrilled and the wedding is planned for two years from now. Two of his other siblings are in relationships that get less approval from the parents. Cai is dating High Priest Pawel, which is awkward since the high priests are encouraged not to date or become involved with anyone royal. Wendy is dating a commoner. Her parents say she is too young to be seriously involved.
Prince Ajax and Princess Antigone are also watching their kids grow up. Their oldest son Prince Alef is dating Lady Zenobia and Princess Aveline is dating Delyth, daughter of Baron Truehead. Princess Arianwen married her fiance Baroness Sorcha and are living happily together. Prince Aurelian married his fiance Bryda. They have three children so far and will go on to have seven more kids. Eventually Aurelian gets the family into the entertainment business and his family enjoys celebrity status.
After Armel became king, tragedy struck the Royal Family when King Armel's cousin Calliope died of a sudden disease. Everyone was very upset and grieved. Calliope's parents, Amandine and Claude, are also bereft as are her siblings. Queen Callista ia particularly devasted at the loss of her oldest granddaughter. Queen Callista has accepted that her family will probably never inherit the throne. She loves them all, but sometimes looks back at her life with regret. She married King Alphonso for status and to please her father and now neither of those things seem important with the throne out of reach and her father gone. She is so depressed about Calliope that some days she had trouble getting out of bed. It helps Callista to have Arianwen and Sorcha near. She is protective of her husband's legacy, but she is also starting to speak out about arranged marriages, marriages for titles, and relationships with big age-gaps, despite the discomfort to her family, particularly her youngest son.
Despite everything, the family is closer than ever. Prince Apollo and Empress Anushka came to the funeral as did most of their children and grandchildren. Grand Duchess Nadia and her family weren't able to attend, but sent their love. Grand duchess Nadia also started a foundation in Mistland devoted to fighting the disease that killed Calliope. All of Callista's family came to the funeral. Prince Apollo was never close to his stepmother, but they reached an understanding. Princess Arianwen read a poem in Callista's honor and announced a scholarship in her name. The people of Northwood are mourning their young royal, but everyone is coming together and looking to future which promises better days ahead.
