Lysander, always a skilled rhetorician, had enrolled in Avalon University - the highest institution of learning in Albion. He studied history - a respectable subject his father approved of, and one he was passionate about. Having been cultivated in a patriotic household, the version of Albionese history presented in Avalon University was one which flattered him, and inspired him to write epic poetry showering ebullient praise on thr Great Albionese Empire and Her Imperial Majesty.
Her Imperial Majesty clearly found her thinly veiled portrayal as the beautiful, noble virgin in Lysander's epic as flattering as he intended it to be, and rewarded him with the post of Poet Laureate of Albion - a position not to be scoffed on, as it came not only with access to court, but also a fashionable townhouse in New Avalon, the capital of Albion which hosts Avalon University, as well as a tenth of Washington Park - the capital city's sprawling grounds, filled with picnic spots and deer. Lysander was delighted, and immediately moved into his new residence.
This troubled Lord Cassian - he had assumed that his eldest son would remain in The Quail's Nest forever, and one day inherit the estate. Inigo did not inspire hope either. At the age of 16, he had enrolled in Albion's Naval Academy, advanced through the ranks quickly, and, at just 19, was Lieutenant on one of the country's most impressive ships. Thus, Lord Cassian started to consider legitimising 6 year-old Silas, who - though it's hard to judge at such a young age - seems to have neither artistic nor military ambitions. Him and Phoebe also welcomed a daughter, but she was out of the question - not only illegitimate, but also a girl.
Then, tragedy struck - within weeks of each other, Lysander and Inigo both died: Lysander, it would seem, alas, from alcohol poisoning (he had, perhaps, enjoyed his newfound position too much), and Inigo shot through the chest during battle. The family is devastated. Though transporting Inigo's body from the middle of the ocean proves a difficult feat, the young brothers are united for their funeral and buried together.
Thus, Cassian had to finalize the decision he was considering: he married Phoebe in a clandestine ceremony and legitimised their son and daughter. This shocked Lady Callista - not only did she have grandchildren she knew nothing about, but their mother was a former courtesan.
