The past five years have been rather tame for the Northwoods, some of the most positive in ages. Love has been in the air as the next generation comes of age. Audric has married Jai Rebell, a merchant he met when he sailed into a neighboring town. Verona has started attending a prestigious university to study astrophysics, and has begun dating classmate Atticus Winterworth. Ione, following in her father's footsteps, married young to her beau Edwyn Archer and had a son with him, a little boy named Ezekiel. Amos himself has found love again after Yvanna's death, bethrothing himself to a woman from a neighboring country named Nova Redriver. In Ezra's family, Lira has begun dating her best friend, the fashionable Imogene Storms. Justus is "dating" childhood friend Annika Creed - as much as a fifteen year-old boy can. One day, while on a date, Justus and Annika witnessed an animal merchant abusing his dogs, three gorgeous red pitbulls from the same litter. True to his name, Justus couldn't let the merchant get away with this, and bought the dogs without a second thought. Though Ezra and Revecca were shocked and upset at first, when Justus explained they agreed to care for the dogs. They've named the girls Lux and Xavia, and the boy is called Karlo. Each child has taken a liking to their own dog - Lira cares for Lux, Justus for Xavia, and little Elias dearly loves Karlo.
