Two years after the birth of their tenth child, the king and queen suffer the tragic loss of their youngest son James to a fever. While they count themselves lucky to have nine healthy children, it was still a harrowing experience. Not long in its wake Jean was sent away from court. Perhaps Hugh and Rohesia have formed a closer relationship through their sorrow. The crown prince has married his betrothed, but Princess Cecily's wedding has been delayed by the year of mourning, and though the time has passed the preparations are dragging. Two other princesses have been betrothed to nobles from Italy. In Aragon, Athelstan and Ysabel have a fourth son - and give up on hopes of ever having a daughter. Margaret and Geoffrey remain childless - it seems likely his nephew will inherit his land. Baroness Mary is now ruling her lands in her own right. She's held her title almost as long as she can remember, so it's nothing strange to her - though her mother now spends more time with her stepfather, and Mary does miss having her around. Aveline and Alan have two daughters and a blissfully happy marriage.
