A drama tinged with comedy (or, according to some critics, a comedy tinged with drama), "Five Golden Rings" takes place during the first Christmas after the Great War the enigmatic Ryder family spends together. One of the guests, the illustrious dowager Countess Lucretia Byrd, is brutally murdered on the first day of Christmas, and is followed by a new guest everyday. Will the accidental detective, Lucy Honeycutt, who thought Christmas with her distant cousins sounded rather quaint, manage to catch the killer and unravel the mystery of the Ryder clan, with the help of Polly, a maid who knows more than she ought to? Critics praise the beautiful sets and costumes, as well as the playful juggling and subverting of classic murder mystery tropes.
