Maddalena, a Italian-Argentine, and Benito, a Italian Swiss, meet in Buenos Aires and fall in love after 8 months of dating. At first Maddalena hated Benito because she thought he was annoying and thought he was better then her but he just knew he loved her despite their differences. Maddalena reluctantly accepted an offer to go on a date, and then he took her to the nicest restuarant and introduced her to his parents who thought she was somewhat bratty and correctly guessed she was from a upper class family. She has become more sweet and welcoming thanks to him and she is know his loving wife, and he her loving husband. Benito has trouble concentrating at his job, to be diagnosed with ADHD later that spring.

They are now happily the parents of a little girl, Zita Desideria. She looks just like Maddalena did when she was a baby and both parents are so happy that they were able to become parents so quickly. They are enjoying the Solomon Islands, which is much more tropical then Argentina and Switzerland.

They wonder how their children are going to get along when they are older and suspect Zita will be a very protective sister to little Ofelia and she treats her sister like a baby doll, currently. Yet another daughter is born and they have taken action to prevent any future babies. So far, with their children, they are content. Polissena is very cute, and is a mixture of both parents though she has her father's thick, curly hair, and they agree Ofelia is the calmest. For little Polissena, her personality is a perfect mix of her fathers and her mother. Zita is very loud and likes to get her point across. She is full of energy and runs all over the place. Ofelia likes playing and dancing, and she refuses to hurt even a worm. Polissena is only a baby. Zita is Maddalena's favorite child, while Ofelia is Benito's favorite child.

Maddalena is now officially Doctor Maddalena Azahar Romano after many years of Medical School. Benito has lost most of his contact with his parents after he introduced them to Maddalena however he doesn't care as she is his life now, as are there daughters and he is incredibly happy to be a part of the family. He mentions Polissena being born and her middle name is his mother's name so she is planning to visit sometime however knowing his mother she may or may not go through with it. In preschool, Polissena stopped a kid from taking a toy from little Ofelia and she hit him so she got in trouble and her mother was not upset.

Maddalena gets in trouble for speeding and them she tries to get out of it by flirting with the officer as that part of her personality has always been like that however she ends up getting arrested for punching him when he pushed her away as she was drunk and the family ends up getting very hefty fees. This causes problems in their relationship and Benito wants Zita away from Maddalena because as much as she is like her, he doesn't want her to be like that and their marriage is falling apart.

The girls, Polissena and Ofelia supporting their father whereas Zita is a mama's girl and is always with her, are helping their father.

Maddalena is disabled in a car accident, and Zita goes to visit her and Maddalena who is sober then tells her how depressed she is from not seeing her children and how she would like to see her. This starts her visits to her mother. Ofelia and Polissena do not want to go as they are afraid of Maddalena, who is no longer beautiful and is always sad.

Maddalena commits suicide by overdose, which leaves everyone very upset and especially her parents who blame Benito for their daughter's suicide. The girls are especially upset at their father, who yells at them for the first time in their lives. Ofelia is quiet and she doesn't tell her father how depressed she is and she ends up almost commiting suicide, but he helps her.
