Year 0:
Evgeni met Missy when he moved into the same apartment building two years ago. Their first conversation happened over the fact that the washing machines needed quarters to work and Evgeni didn't have any. Missy gave him a few, and he returned to her apartment the next day with a stack of quarters and an invitation to dinner. Three months later, the two were a serious couple. Evgeni proposed seven months after that. Evgeni proposed in the off-season, and the two were married almost a year later, in mid-July. They are excited to start their life together!

This year, for their first anniversary, Evgeni took Missy to Russia to meet his family and see the country he grew up in. Evgeni and Missy welcomed their first child, a son! They decided on an English first name with a Russian middle name. Baby Jonny was born three weeks prior to his due date, but was released to go home after a short hospital stay. Jonny is small for his age, but Evgeni is sure he'll catch up. Missy is absolutely loving her new role as a mother--she didn't have siblings and wasn't around babies as she was growing up, so Jonny is her first real experience with an infant. Evgeni has a little more experience than Missy, but is gone a lot because of his job--he loves every minute he can get with Jonny.

Just six months after Jonny was born, Missy found out she was pregnant again. She and Evgeni were shocked to find out she was expecting twins! The pregnancy was difficult, and the twins were born at just twenty-nine weeks. Danny spent six weeks in the NICU, while Ryan spent nearly eleven there. The boys are both home now, and Jonny is enjoying playing with his new little brothers--though he doesn't quite understand how fragile they are just yet. Missy has her hands full with three boys under the age of 2, and she's cut back her hours to part time. Fortunately, she is able to work from home and does most of her work while the boys are napping or in bed for the night.

Despite cutting back her hours, Missy found it too challenging to juggle caring for the boys, managing the house, and working as well. Jonny has taken to French faster than anyone else, and he loves being able to "help" his parents talk to others. Danny and Ryan babble mostly in English, but in Russian and French as well--despite being two, their vocabulary is a bit lacking; however, doctors assure Evgeni and Missy that the two will catch up in time.

The boys are all a bit small for their age, but they are quick on their feet, and Jonny already appears to have an affinity for goalscoring. Missy would rather the boys be interested in the piano or drums or guitar; however, she has decided to support them in whatever way she can.

Jonny, Danny, and Ryan are delighted with their new siblings, but are happier that their mother is back home with them--Missy herself spent nearly three weeks in the hospital. Evgeni was able to stay home with the boys, but it was a stressful time for everyone. The family is eager to get back into a more normal routine.

Despite a tumultuous year, things are looking up for the Sokolovs. Evgeni was traded to the US-based Buffalo Sabres, and the family moved from Montreal to New York. The move came with a substantial pay raise and, though it took some time for everyone's VISAs to come through, after about six weeks, Missy and the kids were able to join Evgeni in their new home. Unfortunately, they weren't able to bring Leo with them, but the kids are so busy getting used to their new culture and language and surroundings that they haven't had much time to miss him. The boys got used to speaking French in school, though they did speak English at home.

Once everyone got settled in their new house, the kids started pestering Evgeni and Missy for another cat. After several family trips to the local animal shelter, they decided on a large calico named Blaze. Evgeni and Missy also celebrated their tenth anniversary this year--they took a trip to Niagra Falls to enjoy the scenery there and spend some quality time with each other.
