Eli received an award this year: Best First Year Teacher for the state! He was honored at a dinner, and Tori enjoyed dressing up in a fancy dress to accompany him. Eli was also a runner up for Most Innovative Teacher--quite an accomplishment for a "rookie" teacher. Eli really enjoys what he is doing and loves finding ways to motivate the kids to learn and help them understand the complex concepts he teaches.

Eli figured he'd have a job with the district for years to come after winning a "best teacher" award; however, he was wrong. Twelve days after the school year ended, Eli got the news that his position had been eliminated due to budget cuts. He hasn't yet found a new position, but he is looking everywhere he can think of to apply. Fortunately, Tori is able to pick up some overtime hours to help them make ends meet. They're living on peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and ramen noodles, but they're managing.

In the midst of Eli's job search, Tori found out she was pregnant! They worried and prayed for six weeks before Eli found a long-term substitute position with the possibility of a permanent position after six months. Tori was able to return to working just regular hours. Four days before their son was born, Eli found out that he had been selected for a permanent position at the school district--in the same classroom he was currently teaching in. He and Tori were ecstatic and relieved to have a more steady source of income.
The Parker's first child, a son they named William Alexander Parker, was born early on April 11th. He is now about three and a half months old. Tori's maternity leave ran out two weeks ago; however, Eli is able to be at home with Wil for the next month. Then, both Eli and Tori's mothers have volunteered to watch him during the week. Fortunately, Eli and Tori's schedules are offset so that there is only about four hours when they're both at work.

It was very challenging living with an infant in a studio apartment, but Eli and Tori made it work until Wil was about eight months old. Then, they were able to locate a suitable two bedroom apartment about ten minutes away from their previous one. To celebrate the move, Eli purchased a small fish tank and a smattering of fish to go inside: six mollies, eight rainbowfish, and a black ghost fish. Wil loves watching the fish swim...and feeding them...and putting his fingers in the tank to "pet" the fishies.

There is a lot to celebrate this year--Eli's thirtieth birthday, Wil's second birthday, and Eli and Tori's fifth wedding anniversary! In addition, Tori got a promotion to full fledged baker! It only took ten years, but she is accomplishing a dream of hers, and absolutely loves baking! To celebrate, Eli and Tori went out on an elaborate, expensive date (they had a lot to celebrate) that involved dinner at a 5 star restaurant, a wine tasting, a limo ride, and a late night couples massage before returning home and doing some stargazing on the roof. Wil spent the night at his grandmother's house, and came back in the morning VERY excited that he had gotten to eat pancakes for breakfast.

Eli and Tori took Wil to the county fair early in the summer. He absolutely fell in love with the horses and goats and lambs he saw there and has been begging for one ever since. Finally, Tori was able to work out a deal with a local farmer to keep one of his lambs for Wil to take care of. Though it isn't really his, Wil adores the little sheep and asks to go and see it every day (between Eli and Tori, they get him there about four days a week). Wil has named the lamb "Fuzzy".

The family celebrated Tori's thirtieth birthday this year with a trip to the zoo and (later) a nice dinner out and a movie. Wil, now 4, started getting afraid of Fuzzy when she grew taller than he was. Tori had an inkling that something like that would happen and "sold" Fuzzy back to the farmer who already owned her. Wil, happy that his sheep would be well cared for, went back to his first love: the fish in the aquarium. There are now twenty of the little guys, and Wil has a name for each one (and apparently knows how to tell them apart, too).

Eli and Tori talked about it for a long time, and they decided to use their house fund so that Tori could go to school and get a business degree. She wants to open her own bakery someday, and a background in business will help her to do it. She is going to school in the evenings, which is a lot to add on, but she and Eli are determined to work it out.
Also this year, Wil started Kindergarten! He is a bit shy with the other kids, but has made a few friends--including Henry and Noah, the twins who just moved in with their parents next door.

Eli and Tori had been trying to have another baby for the past few years, but had been unsuccessful. They had just started considering fertility treatments (and figuring out how to budget for them) when Tori got pregnant! What they didn't expect was for her first ultrasound to show four babies instead of one. Though doctors advised selective reduction, Eli and Tori declined--wanting to let things take a natural course. Tori immediately stopped school and cut back to part-time hours. Eli picked up a night security job for some extra income, and they started looking for a house. Wil was so excited for the new babies to arrive! He kept bragging to his friends that he was getting four babies instead of just one. The quadruplets--two boys and two girls, were born on October 28, 2027. It took seven months for all of them to come home, but they eventually all made it. Wil is a great helper and really loves his new role as big brother. In January 2028, the Parkers moved into their new home--a four bedroom new construction with plenty of space for everyone. Wil spent several months giving various family members tours of the house--including the backyard, the basement, and his new nautical-themed room (with his very own small fishtank).

Eli and Tori both grew up with dogs, and they always wanted to get one once they had the space--and now...they have the space. Wil went with them to pick out a dog from the shelter, and they ended up with a friendly Shetland Sheepdog named Nina. She loves chasing Wil around the yard, playing ball, and "herding" her humans (particularly the quads, who are nearly 2).

Though Eli and Tori both come from stable families, not all of their siblings could sustain a solid family life. This year, Eli and Tori adopted their niece, Anna Shiloh Murphy, who is just four. Life with five preschoolers and a second grader is a little wild, but they are muddling through and having a good time together! Anna had no siblings, and lived with her single mother (who had a drug problem), so moving in with Eli and Tori's crew was an adjustment. Wil has taken her right under his wing and showed her the ropes. He protects and looks out for her just like he does for his other siblings. For their part, Avery, Joel, Hannah, and Grace view Anna as another playmate.

Though Eli and Tori both come from stable families, not all of their siblings could sustain a solid family life. This year, Eli and Tori adopted their niece, Anna Shiloh Murphy, who is just four. Life with five preschoolers and a second grader is a little wild, but they are muddling through and having a good time together! Anna had no siblings, and lived with her single mother (who had a drug problem), so moving in with Eli and Tori's crew was an adjustment. Wil has taken her right under his wing and showed her the ropes. He protects and looks out for her just like he does for his other siblings. For their part, Avery, Joel, Hannah, and Grace view Anna as another playmate.
