Re: say/think I think everyone knows the drill! :D

This is my son Ainslie Blaise
you say: Hi, Ainslie.
you think: Do the parents realize how girly Ainslie sounds? Blaise isn't so bad, but horrible with Ainslie. He needs a strong, masculine name to anchor the combo.
This is my daughter Liesel Marguerite
say: Hi Liesel. That's such a pretty name!
think: Liesel--German, pretty; Marguerite--French, stuffy and fussy. These don't match up.
This is my son Gideon Asho (or Asher)
say: Hi, Gideon.
think: Gideon Bible? Okay, moving on...is Asho a real name? Asher is nice, though, soft but strong and masculine. Too bad they didn't use that as the first name.
This is my daughter Evangeline Órlaith (prn Or-la) nn Eva or Lena
say: Hi, Eva.
think: Eva is pretty (prn "EE-vah", preferably) and Evangeline is nice, but I'm not sure about Órlaith. It looks pretty, but I wouldn't have known how to prounouce it and certainly not how to spell it from its pronounciation.
This is my son Sebastian Alaric nn Bastian
say: Hi, Bastian.
think: Sebastian is a nice, strong name and Bastian is beautiful--makes me think of "bastion," part of a fortress. Alaric is nice, too, at first I thought the combo might be too much, but it's growing on me! Sounds like a strong, serious young man.
This is my daughter Emmeline Colette
say: Hello, Emmeline.
think: Emmeline is pretty and sweet; makes me think of Emmeline Harris from "Anne of Green Gables" series. Colette is too fussy.
This is my son Dieter Henrik
say: Hello, Dieter.
think: Lovely German name. Thank goodness both names are very German sounding--they didn't mix a strong German name with one clearly not German. He'll probably have to tell people the pronounciation a lot, but it's not bad at all.
This is my daughter Beatrice Mae
say: Hello, Beatrice.
think: I hope she's called Bea or some other nickname; the full Beatrice sound stuffy to me. Beatrice Mae sounds too stuffy and old-ladyish for a child, though it's okay on an adult.
This is my son Caspian Nikolai
say: Hi, Caspian.
think: Narnian mixed with Russian--interesting. I like Caspian and Nikolai, but I'm not sure about together...not bad, though.
This is my daughter Heidi Fleur
say: Hello, Heidi.
think: Why does this combo sound like a sneeze to me? Another German and French mix, sounds odd together. Neither is a strong enough name to anchor the combo, sounds wishy-washy, poor girl.
This is my son Elias Mackenzie nn Eli or Mac
say: Hi, Eli.
think: I love Eli, not so sure about Elias, but it's not bad. Mackenzie's not my style, but altogether not bad.
This is my daughter Isobel Ruth
say: Hi, Isobel.
think: Beautiful, classic, strong names, and a beautiful combo. I wonder what nicknames she has: Izzy, Izzo/Iso, Ruthie?
