Emperor Filipp and Empress Josefina had 8 children, all of the couples sons except for Tsarevich (later Emperor) Valentin (DS4), died in childhood of an unknown inherited disease (likely the multiple intermarriages of the European royal families) before their second birthday. The royal couples daughters did not seem affected by this disease and all of their daughters survived into adulthood except for (DD4) who died at age 8 falling from a horse.
Valentin took over Emperor Filipp’s throne after his assassination. Unfortunately, 3 years later after declaring war on the kingdom of France whom he believed to be responsible for his father’s death Valentin died in battle. This left his 8 year old son Maksim as heir to the Russian throne, in order to secure relations with France, Empress Josefina was made regent until Maksim comes of age.
