Amidst rumors of yet another peasant uprising against the rule of Queen Anne, Anne and Tommaso met with Duke Edward of Cornwall (whom many consider to be the "rightful" heir to the throne) and arranged a betrothal between his eldest son, Lord Matthew, and their daughter, Princess Maud. In doing so, they hoped to both end the rumors and avoid civil war. So far, they seem to have achieved both of these goals.

Duke Edward of Cornwall has been assassinated! Peasants and nobility alike are abuzz with rumors of who might have been responsible for this tragedy. Some say it was the Portuguese King Ferdinand, angry that he had been unable to secure a betrothal between his own son and Princess Maud. Others say it was Queen Anne herself, attempting to eliminate her rival for the throne and keep the new duke within her court... Either way, Lord Matthew has become the new Duke of Cornwall.

It was rather embarrassing for Princess Maud to inform her parents of an unexpected pregnancy...Thimble's! At some point during their tour of England last year, it seemed, Thimble had gotten up to some mischief with the spaniel of one of their noble hosts. She gave birth to one puppy, which Maud named Spindle.

During the ball held for Princess Maud's birthday, Duke Matthew accidentally trod on his fiancee's foot whilst they danced. While her foot was not permanently damaged in any way, it did mean that Princess Maud had to stay seated for the rest of the night and couldn't enjoy the ball.

When King Henry of France died and was succeeded by his infant great-grandson, Tommaso thought he saw an opportunity to increase their territory and popularity. He convinced Anne to go to war against France, and, unfortunately, was swiftly proven wrong on both counts.
