As teenagers they fell in love and married when they were 17 years old. A few months later, when Leo was 18 and Agatha was still just 17, Agatha gave birth to their first child, a son called Johannes. Leo started working as a weaver’s assistant and Agatha worked as a maid. A year after Johannes, Willa arrived. Within months, Agatha was pregnant again. Unfortunately, this child was miscarried in the third term of the pregnancy. Agatha and Leo called him Richard Edwin and buried him at the parish churchyard. Agatha soon became pregnant again, and this time her belly grew a lot bigger than with her previous children. She was expecting twins! Two little girls were delivered prematurely, but unfortunately only Agnes survived the birth. Euphemia was put to rest next to her little brother. The next year was a busy year: Flemish weavers moved into Manchester and Leo and his master had to work hard to keep up with the competition. When Agnes was two years old, Agatha gave birth to her third son, Kendrick. A year later, Ralf followed. By now Johannes was old enough to follow his dad to weavers, and Willa would help her mother at the house where she worked. If they were in the way, or too loud and rowdy, they could expect a slap on the wrist. But there was also plenty of time to sneak out and play, and Johannes and Willa were best friends. When Johannes was 8 and Ralf 2 years old, Walter was born. Johannes and Willa were outside playing, but 5 year old Agnes was assisting her mother. The delivery wasn’t more eventful than any other Agatha had been through, but it was the first time Agnes witnessed anything like it. She was shocked by the screaming and the blood and the pain, and solemnly swore she’d never end up in the same situation. Two years later Ysabeau (“Izzie”) was born, and not many months later, Agatha was pregnant again. During the same year, a terrible plague swept through the city. Leo was insistent Agatha ought to stay inside so she wouldn’t catch it, especially since she was already weakened by a tough pregnancy. Agatha delivered a sweet girl called Gunnora (or Nora for short). Unfortunately, it hadn’t been as easy keeping the children inside the small cottage during the plague, and six year old Kendrick and five year old Ralf caught it. They both passed away after a few mercilessly swift days. Three years passed, and despite having a household with six children under the age of 13, the house felt empty without Kendrick and Ralph. Agatha became pregnant again, but the girl she carried was stillborn. She was called Clarissa. The next year, Agatha became pregnant again and gave birth a healthy girl called Adela, or Della for short. The next year, Willa turned 15 and was engaged (and quickly married) to Nicky. Agatha became pregnant again, and gave birth to twins: a girl and a boy. The delivery was traumatic and the little girl, Eleanor, didn’t make it. Adam was small and sickly for the first few months, but eventually recovered and grew strong. The next year, Willa became pregnant! They soon discovered she was expecting twins, which made everyone in the family very anxious since Agatha had had such bad experiences with twin deliveries. Luckily, both children survived - Agatha was there to support Willa all through the pregnancy and delivery, and so Willa named the daughter after her. The son was named Jasper. Early the next year, Agatha gave birth to a baby boy given the name Aethelstan after a fairytale prince. He’s called Ellis for short. During the summer, the wells were contaminated and a new plague swept through the city. Several of the Wilde children caught it, and unfortunately seven year old Nora and three year old Della passed away. A month after Nora and Della’s passing, fifteen year old Agnes, who’d never taken back her promise never to give birth, joined a convent. The next year, Willa gave birth to another son called Everard. It was difficult to be happy though, with the Wilde family still mourning Nora and Della. Late in November, Johannes married the girl he’d had his eyes on for years: Sig Mallory. It wasn’t long after the wedding until Agatha was pregnant again. She was ill throughout the pregnancy, and two months before the baby was due, she started having contractions that felt all wrong. Her body was trying to push out the child, but he wouldn’t come. Agatha passed away after four days of labour, and the little boy, Owen, could not be saved either. The rest of the children survived and lived until (relatively) old age.
