DH: Zephyr Blaze Lansbright (21)
DW: Aluna Waverly Wisp [Hygrace] Lansbright (20)
Aluna and Zephyr practically grew up inseparable. Zephyr's mother acted as Aluna's mother's midwife while Zephyr played in the other room. Zephyr was one of the first people Aluna met besides her parents. The Lansbright family and the Hygrace family stayed in close contact, living as neighbors and babysitting for each other on the regular.
By the time Aluna and Zephyr learned of their preset engagement, they had already experimented with a relationship. However, they had decided they worked better as best friends than as lovers so when their parents told them they were to be married, both had to work through some things.
Aluna had to tell her boyfriend that they could no longer date because her parents had betrothed her to her best friend. Her boyfriend laughed in her face before realizing she meant it. He started yelling at her, even going so far as to push her around, slamming her into the wall and bruising her.
Zephyr didn't have a current relationship to end, so when Aluna came to him, bruised and with a bloody nose, he focussed all his attention on her. He helped her clean up and nursed her injuries. "Aluna, what happened?"
"Guess you could say my wonderful boyfriend wasn't so wonderful after all," she moaned.
Zephyr gently dragged his cleaning rag across her face. "You mean Xero did this to you? What an ass."
Aluna sniffled as Zephyr continued to clean the blood from her face. "I thought Xero and I were perfect for each other. I thought for sure I'd marry him."
Zephyr stopped his cleaning, letting the rag fall to his lap as he took Aluna's face in his hands. "Lulu, love, I'm glad you got out of that. If he's willing to do this to you over something you had no control over, what would he do if you made a choice he didn't like? Xero has the strength to kill you, Lulu."
"I know," she whispered, not daring to look up at Zephyr.
"Anyways," Zephyr continued, picking up his rag again, "I'll protect you. That's my job now, as your fiancé, isn't it?" Aluna let out a small chuckle. "What? You don't think I could take Xero?"
Aluna laughed, "Z, have you seen yourself lately?"
Zephyr glanced in the mirror, his long, lanky figure staring back at him. "You think I can't take him because I'm skinny?"
"Z, we all know I'm stronger than you and look what Xero did to me."
Zephyr dropped his joking attitude, taking Aluna's hand in his. "Lulu, you know I'd die for you if I had to..." Zephyr paused, allowing Aluna's expression to turn to pleading before adding, "I'm just not attracted to you, so we'll see how this marriage ends up working." Aluna had to resist the urge to slap him.

DH: Uberon Lucra Solguard-Halax (34)
DH: Delta Aaron Solguard-Halax (32)
Uberon and Delta both escaped traumatic childhoods. Uberon lived in a group home for most of his life, surrounded by gruffer, meaner boys. Unlike the rest of the boys at the home, Uberon didn't come in off the streets. His parents both had money but neither wanted to raise a child. With the money they had, they could have sent Uberon to a boarding school or paid for in-home childcare. But the Halaxs' idea of childbearing was to make their soft son into the strongest boy possible. So they created a story about how they found him on the streets and raised him for five years before he became too much for them to handle and they dropped him off at the group home.
Uberon still remembers their last words to him, despite being five at the time. "Uberon," his father told him, "you're too soft for your own sake. This is going to make you a better man, a stronger man." His mother said nothing, too focussed on her business affairs to pay attention to her son.
Because he grew up among these boys from the streets, Uberon's only idea of children was how cruel they could be, and not just to each other. He saw the way these boys treated their caretakers. They beat them and called them names. They treated them as if they had been abusive towards them when all the caretakers had done was treat them with kindness. And whenever Uberon tried to return that kindness, the boys turned on him and gave him the beating of his life.
While Uberon lived this miserable life of his in a group home, Delta lived his own miserable life in his own home. From a very poor family, Delta was the middlemost child of fifteen. His older siblings all banded together as did his younger siblings, leaving him all alone. Because the older ones needed to help work and the younger were still growing, they received food first, often leaving nothing for Delta. His mother was very strict with Delta, telling him to his face that he was a worthless child because he preferred to daydream and read and draw rather than go out and work for his living.
Delta's father wasn't much better. A spineless man, he never stood up for himself or his children. Delta wasn't sure his vocabulary expanded past "Yes, dear," he spoke so little. Sometimes, Mrs. Solguard recruited her husband to do her dirty work, using him to enact the physical punishment she thought she wouldn't have the strength to complete.
Every time Delta received this punishment (And it was much more frequently than he would care to admit), he spent his recovery time daydreaming about the day he would have a family of his own. He knew he wanted to have children in order to raise them better than his parents raised him.
Every time Uberon told Delta he didn't want children, the thought of leaving Uberon flashed through Delta's mind. It felt like Uberon was controlling the situation rather than sharing control, a fact Delta didn't like. For all his life, he had watched his mother control his father and Delta wanted nothing to do with that sort of relationship.
The words just sort of tumbled out of his mouth one evening after a long day. Delta brought up the issue again and again Uberon insisted he didn't want to have children. Delta didn't realize he said it out loud until he was halfway through the sentence. "Maybe I'll leave if we don't have kids soon."
Uberon's response shocked Delta. "Fine by me."

Lumen had never felt so in love and so happy as she had since marrying Kethra. The two women fit like a glove together, each giving what the other needed and taking what the other offered. Lumen thought for sure that she and Kethra would last.
Until she saw her beloved wife out walking with a man and two children. And she saw her wife kiss the man. And heard the children call her wife "mom."
The minute Kethra arrived home, Lumen confronted her. "What the hell, Kethra? What on earth did I see today? Who was that man? Why were you kissing him? Whose kids are those? Are you cheating on me?"
Kethra set her hands on Lumen's shoulders, gently rubbing her back to soothe the younger woman. "It's not what it looks like, lovey," she said softly, her mouth resting against Lumen's ear. "I'm not cheating on you. I'm cheating with you."
Lumen pushed Kethra away from her. "But we're married!"
Kethra nodded. "Because I love you."
"How am I supposed to believe that?" Lumen sobbed, crossing her arms over her chest in a defensive posture. "How long have you been lying to me?"
Kethra urged Lumen to sit down. She knew her story might shock the other woman and she wanted to ensure no one would get hurt. When she finally managed to coax Lumen into her favorite seat, Kethra continued, "I've been married to Prelius since I was a kid. I was fourteen, he was nineteen. Our parents arranged it for us. He decided he liked me. I knew I could never like him. It's always been girls for me. But he wanted me so... after awhile, I gave in. And that's where Luphreya and Lavidius come in.
"Now that they're older, I figured it wouldn't hurt them as much if Our marriage fell apart. So I started looking for my own personal happiness outside of the marriage. You aren't the first woman I've cheated on Prelius with. You're the third. The other two didn't last and I didn't really want them to. When you proposed, I couldn't say no.
"I know I should have told you about Prelius and Luphreya and Lavidius but I didn't know how to. There's still a lot of pain in that situation for me. I love my son and daughter, of course, but I could never return to that family for good. Lumen, I want you to understand that."
Lumen started sobbing halfway through her wife's story. Pulling Kethra into her arms, she plastered her with kisses. "Babe, I'm so sorry I doubted you. I'm so sorry this happened to you. It never should have. Don't leave me and don't you ever fear to tell me things like this again, okay?"
Kethra stared at Lumen. "You aren't mad?"
"Babe, you're the victim here," Lumen stated.
"Yeah, and I lied to you about this. How do you know I haven't lied to you about other things?"
Lumen paused, staring Kethra down. "Have you?"
"No, but--"
"Then that's good enough for me." Lumen paused. "But promise me one thing: you'll fjnd a way to end your marriage with Prelius?"
Kethra hugged Lumen and whispered in her ear, "Anything for you, lovey."
