King Miles’ queen, Regina, unfortunately passed away. Eager to have an heir to the throne, she was quickly with child. Though pregnancy came easily, childbirth sadly did not. Suffering miscarriage followed by near-immediate pregnancy multiple times weakened her, and in the second year of their marriage she made it nearly to term before the baby died and Regina passed away as well. Miles is now engaged to Audrey, Duchess of Warwick.
The former Queen Dowager Elspeth’s husband also died, of a persistent sickness (and too much bleeding by his doctors). She cannot say she is heartbroken, as she was not in love with him as she was with Simon, but she is aggrieved as he was a decent man. The pair did not have any children together.
Caroline and Henry’s two (surviving) daughters have been affianced. Eleanor is engaged to Owen of Gwent, and Amelia has been promised to Magnus of Exeter when she comes of age.
Beatrice is heartbroken. Two years ago her youngest daughter Flora was felled by a brain fever, and this year her beloved Robert passed away from sepsis. She is inconsolable, having suffered so many losses in such a short period of time. The women in her family are giving her as much comfort as they can. Unfortunately, without a male heir, their estate will soon turn to another family. Theophania has been matched with Benedict of Essex, an alliance with the son of one of King Miles’ allies the present Duke of Essex.
King Alewyn & Queen Violante have had three more children. After two daughters, they had a son and heir, Gabriel (his second name Thomas honors King Alistair Thomas). This was followed by another daughter Theresa (her second name Marina is after her mother’s Mariana) and a spare son Tobias, rounding the family out nicely. They are happy.
Prince William and Lady Esme were wed when she became of age, this quickly followed by two pregnancies resulting in a daughter Martha and son Leonard. Esme is doing her best to prevent conceptions at the moment, fearing being incessantly with child, and is helped along by William’s happiness to look elsewhere for carnal enjoyment. There are rumors of a bastard, but Esme cares little as long as she can relax after a day filled with toddlers and their new young ward (see below).
Ariane’s second husband, Teodric, succumbed to goutish complications a few years back, and she herself passed on this year after a protracted illness with cancer. Her youngest son, and only child with Teodric, Astell, the new Duke of Godart, has moved into his elder half-brother William’s household for the time being (any of the other siblings’ homes would be a better environment for the young Duke, but as Alewyn and William know Astell best, and Alewyn is in Italy, it was decided he would remain close by with Prince William for now).
