DS: Prince Joachim Robert Leopold [dec1]In the five years past the three oldest children have now married or engaged themselves to royals of all different lands. Prince Percival, ever the romantic, asked to be wed to a lady he had become close to during his schooling in Friesland; the sweet - yet lower-classed - Countess Beatrix Lutjens. His parents, empathetic to their childhood friendship (and always willing to make relations with this nation), gave their blessing, and the two were engaged in the January of 1199 and married the evening of December 31.During this year-long engagement news spreads of the King of Scotland’s illness, and he officially dies in April of 1200 at the age of 27. His brother, Prince Ruairidh, is appointed King, to the worry of the people. You see, Scotland has already lost 4 kings this last century, all at the age of 27, and many nobles wanted Prince Ruairidh’s uncle Duke Crowles to become king, as he is 46 years of age already. Still, Ruairidh is granted the kingdom and now requires a wife. Few nobles would like to hand their daughters to a doomed man, and even fewer royals, but that changes when the Princess Blanche demands her parents for the marriage. At her age she is viewed as over-ripe for marriage in many countries, no matter how her parents disagree, and she states her admiration for Scotland and the need for a stronger British alliance. The Princess has never been one for mysticism and folklore, and with her determination for this goal the King and Queen relent. She may marry the new King, under one condition: she must marry him after his 28th birthday, to reassure the superstitious natures of the English people and to avoid seeming like the English are aiming for the Scottish throne after the King’s potential death. Princess Blanche courteously agrees, and in July of 1200 she moves up to Scotland to familiarise herself with the Scottish royal family and the people.Oh, additionally, King Philip II of France turned 16 the October of 1202, and he is loosely interested in conquering the British Isles, although it seems he has set his sights on such lands as Friesland and the Holy Roman Empire first. The English royalty are as pleased as anyone worried for their kingdom could be, as they have already spent a few years fortifying the Scottish military, improving the defence system of Friesland, and diplomatically forging relations with the H.R. Empire. The news is still enough to unease much of Europe, and to encourage the European folk for the potential of war England and the Empire decide to marry the eldest Rennes child, Princess Nicola, with the German-born Duke Korbinian of Amstadter. Both of them are a bit naïve to the situation but understand the gravity of their union, having travelled back and forth to each others’ countries with their parents. They are not immediately married, however, as King Philip II had recently made an offer for Princess Nicola’s hand in marriage and the King and Queen believe this odd circumstance could lead to spontaneous war if not handled correctly.
