Jess has given birth to her fourth baby, and third daughter. The pregnancy with this one went very smoothly until her 32nd week, when she started having abnormal pains in her side. Jess was quickly rushed to the hospital to see what was wrong, and after an agonizing hour of waiting and a heart-wrenching ultrasound, the doctor discovered a kidney stone. The baby, aptly named Matilda Faith (Matilda means "strength in battle"), had to be delivered via emergency C-section or else both she and Jess would die.
Baby Matilda weighed in at a mere 2 pounds, three ounces and has a length of 15 inches, about the length of this poster's Android phone (which she's writing from lol). She was also found to have a badly-damaged kidney that would need replacing. Both Felix and Jess, and even the kids, were very distraught by this news, knowing their precious new addition would spend her first month or two hooked up to tubes and IV fluids. The doctor gave them a good prognosis, though--Matilda has a 90% chance of survival and should be able to live a normal life. As a preemie, she would also be behind on development, but Felix and Jess just wanted a healthy baby.
Meanwhile, both Annabelle and Violet have started school, Annabelle going to first grade and Violet to preschool. Both girls are thrilled to find out what they'll be learning this year. For her first show-and-tell, Annabelle talked about her baby sister and asked the class to pray for her.
