Else was missing her ex-boyfriend. A lot. And so she plunged herself headfirst into her work, loving what she does so much that she isn't able to focus on the lack of love in other areas of her life. A few coworkers became concerned about her, she spent so much time at work. However, the podcast's Ireland reporter, Ronan, was the first to actually ask if she was okay. The stress and loneliness suddenly became too much, and the usually professional Else began sobbing into his shoulder. To Ronan's credit, he took it all in his stride, and comforted her, and then took to visiting her often. Rather quickly, the two struck up a friends-with-benefits relationship, after Ronan's now-ex-boyfriend left him for someone else. Else almost cried when she found out she's pregnant; she's sure Ronan will leave her to raise the child alone, and she doesn't want that loneliness again. However, he turns out be thrilled, and very supportive. He promises to help out however he can and they agree to hyphenate their surnames, with a lot of jokes about how much punctuation this baby will have in their name. She's glad things aren't awkward, and she doesn't go into details when explaining to her boss that she's pregnant - she says nothing with regards to the father.
Annie doesn't hate Mike. She feels betrayed, a little horrified by his infidelity and lies, but she certainly doesn't hate him, and when he comes round with the final divorce papers, she's only too willing when he suggests they sleep together one last time, 'for old time's sake'. She kicks herself a month later, when she sees the two pink lines on the pregnancy test - she should've been more careful. She feels she has a duty to tell Mike, because it's his child too. However, when she shares the news, he blushes a little and tells her that his current girlfriend (the one he'd been seeing behind her back for a year) was also pregnant, and that he wasn't sure he wanted to raise two kids with different mothers. He effectively cut her off, although he did mumble something about child support. Annie smiles and congratulates him, before screaming into a pillow when she got home. How was she going to raise a child in her own?
Mattie had always wanted to see America. She books a cheap flight from Edinburgh to New York during the off-season, and from there travels around the continent, seeing the sights, living the dream, and, one night, falling into bed with a handsome stranger whose name was definitely either Leo or Jakob. Or maybe Elias. She'd met a lot of handsome strangers on that trip. Upon returning home, she tried to pass off her illness as just a bout of flu, combined with jet lag, but a little voice in the back of her head reminds her about the time difference, and reminds her how disorganised she is, and hints that maybe she'd messed up taking her birth control. Mattie determinedly ignores these hints, so the voice begins shouting "HEY, MAYBE YOU'RE PREGNANT!" at her instead, and she finally gives in and takes a pregnancy test. A mixture of dread and exhilaration floods her stomach when she the test shows up positive. It certainly wasn't what she'd planned, but it was just as great an adventure as travelling the world, right?
When the three meet up, no one wants to tell. All the sisters are shaking throughout the starters, and it's Mattie, fuelled by excitement and nervous energy who first blurts out, "Hey, guys, I'm pregnant. Just, um, thought you should know." She's a little bewildered and rather affronted when her older sisters both start to laugh. After a few minutes of painfully awkward but cathartic laughter, Else shares her news, and a hysterical Annie finally reveals that she too is expecting. They're nervous to tell their parents, but Hanna and Gilbert are just delighted to be having grandchildren, and offer the girls whatever help they need. Mattie moves back in, aware that her cramped one bed apartment probably wasn't a great place to raise a child. Else introduces Ronan, who charms the Fraser parents with his easy manner and down to earth attitude. They trust him to take good care of their oldest daughter throughout her pregnancy. Else and Ronan promise to visit Annie whenever is possible, as do Hanna, Gilbert and Mattie. She's never alone for too long.
The kids are all born within a month of each other. First to go into labour was Mattie - Else later joked that her energetic little sister couldn't even wait to have her baby. Maybe because she was the youngest, she wasn't plagued by morning sickness and migraines, although she did eat an awful lot of weird things! After seven hours of labour with her sisters by her side, Mattie delivers a little girl. She kept the gender a surprise, and is delighted to have a daughter. Before their children were born, the sisters agreed to give their kids names which work in Dutch and English, as their parents did for them, to honour their heritage (although only Mattie regularly speaks Dutch with her friends, many of whom she met travelling round the Netherlands, the older sisters still have a fair knowledge of the language.) She names her daughter Luna Skye Fraser. A week later, Else delivers her son. Her pregnancy was difficult - she was sick almost constantly, but Ronan was a life-saver, and stuck by her all through. Her labour is a lot longer than Mattie's, about 18 hours, but both Mum and Dad are thrilled to welcome Ida Mae Fraser-O'Brien into the world. Ronan makes sure Else knows the baby's name is up to her, but she is adamant that it will be his choice as well. Thankfully, they agree quickly, and Ida's named about an hour after she's born. The last sister to have her kids is Annie, who has shocked to discover that she was carrying twins at a scan about a month ago. She has to have a c-section, but both her sons are born healthy, and she names them Arthur Miles and Thomas Valentine.
(I literally don't know anything about pregnancy or childbirth, apart from that my sister and I are weird for being born in 2 hours and half an hour respectively!)
