Re: Arcadia's Sisters' Story KUY Congrats - Round 2
in reply to a message by Arcadia
Callie, Georgie and Mattie have some big news to share with each other, they may be different sisters but their bond is strong and they need each other now more than ever. On March 1st the three meet at a café not far from their parents' house...
Since the breakdown of her relationship, Callie felt betrayed and unloved, so when Dr Scott - the mental health expert who features on most of her podcasts - asks her out, Callie welcomes the attention. Although there are sparks there, Callie is frightened of being burnt once again and the pair agree to keep things casual. That is, however, until Callie finds out she's pregnant. She figures this may be her best chance at having a baby before times runs away with her and she decides to keep it, she's honest with Peter (who has no idea how to react). Several weeks later, Callie has no choice but to tell her bosses who are surprisingly understanding. Peter can stay their resident expert while Callie's role gets progressively more behind the camera as she gets larger. It's awkward initially between herself and Peter, he wants to be involved and go to scans but Callie wants it to be strictly professional while she focuses on her unborn baby.
The breakdown of her marriage rocked Georgie to her core, she hated the sight of her husband Adam for impregnating another woman when he knew it was her dream to become a mother. She doesn't want a divorce but she does want him out of her life; it had been several months since she'd seen him when he came round with the final paperwork to sign for the divorce and a huge wave of emotion swept her up. He apologised, insisting he'd never stopped loving her, in fact, despite expecting a baby with somebody else, he couldn't continue with that relationship because of his love for Georgie. She knows it's wrong and stupid but caught in the moment, Georgie and Adam experience a final night of passion. Four weeks later she's pregnant and reeling. Adam went through with the divorce and has already been seen out with another woman leaving Georgie with her heart shattered for a second time. How he's got two children by two woman due in the same year but - for all his faults - Adam vows to play his part in this child's life and be there for both it and Georgie. Part of Georgie wishes she'd never told him, packed up and moved far away to raise her baby by herself - she never wanted a "broken" family - but deep down she knows it's for the best.
Meanwhile, Mattie the wildchild, spent winter touring around South America with some money she saved up from working all year. She hooked up with a fellow traveller Luis a number of times throughout their road trip around French Guiana, Suriname and Guyana. Neither of them thought much of it. Until a few weeks ago, having been back in England for a while, Mattie can't put her sickness and sweats down to jetlag anymore. She doesn't believe it but takes a pregnancy test to humour the little voice in her head and is stunned for it to come back positive...! She's distraught and annoyed at herself; how could she have been so carless, she was on contraceptive pills... Only, maybe she hadn't accounted for the time differences as they travelled, and maybe she hadn't been taking them as accurately as she needed to. This wasn't in Mattie's life plan, a baby is a big responsibility, she'd have to stop partying, stop travelling - but she doesn't have to keep it.
At the coffee shop, Callie goes first - she's 10 weeks pregnant - her sister's are stunned, in fact, they can't seem to say anything until... "I'm 8 weeks pregnant", Georgie admits. "Guys, I'm 12 weeks pregnant", Mattie blurts out. The three sister's stare at each other in silence until Mattie breaks it, "Mum's going to kill us". Time seems to stop in that coffee shop as, in turn, they expand on their life changing news, giving their sisters detail after tiny detail. There's crying (mainly from Georgie), and sensible suggestions (from Callie) and half-hearted attempts at jokes (Mattie, of course) but sooner or later they know they have to leave the café and face their parents.
Beth and Henry are shocked - as any parents would be when their three daughters, all in non-committed relationships, turn around at the same time to admit they're expecting - but they give their support to each and every once of them. Mattie, who stills lives at home, is welcome to stay on there and receive as much support from Beth and Henry as she needs. While after a brief conversation, Callie decided to sell her apartment and move in to Georgie's house (that she got in the divorce) so the pair could support each other.
Callie's pregnancy progresses smoothly, at first she's worried that she doesn't appear to be expanding as much as her siblings but the midwives assure her she's fine and every woman is different. Sure enough, around the 24-26 week mark, Callie suddenly blooms and stretches several inches. Despite being the oldest, she arguably has the most comfortable pregnancy of all. Her due date at the start of October comes and is waved by; she starts to become worried that doctors may have to induce her labour but 12 house before her appointment for this to happen - at 10pm on a Sunday evening - Callie starts contracting. 18 hours later, with the support of gas and air and a TENS machine (plus both sisters), a baby boy is born 2 weeks late weighing 8lbs 10oz.
Georgie experiences some problems early on as severe morning sickness takes hold of her and she is hospitalised twice during the first trimester to be monitored and put on a drip. Fortunately her fortunes improve though migraines and cramp plague her in the second trimester. Despite these issues, Georgie loves her bump, it is round and perfect and she is glowing with pregnancy. However, she's brought back to Earth with a jolt when she starts getting severe abdominal pains five weeks before her due date. Rushed to hospital, the midwives explain that the placenta has begun to detach, they can whip the baby out via C-section or Georgie can try and hold on and keep the baby in as long as possible. Georgie opts for the second option, believing her baby is safer in than out but the choice is taken out of her hands when she goes into labour in early September, less than a week later. With her mother and Callie by her side, Georgie delivers her little boy with only gas and air in 9 hours flat! He weighs 6lbs 2oz.
Mattie, the skinniest of the sister's, has the smallest bump. She's not a fan of her growing abdomen at first but the rounder it gets the more she becomes attached with it - finally figuring it's not going away! She's the only one of the sister's to choice to know the gender of the baby she's carrying and is overjoyed that her baby will be a girl! It may be her age (because it certainly isn't the care she took of her body pre-pregnancy) but Mattie doesn't get the pregnancy side effects of sickness, cramps or migraines; she does, however, begin to develop a unhealthy liking of processed chicken and ham wrapped around melted cheese and ready salted crisps! 14hours into her due date in late September, Mattie begins to go into labour; accompanied by her mother and Georgie, she embarks on a 23 hour labour supported in the end by an epidural and lots of gas and air! Finally, a 8lbs 5oz baby girl is born!
