Marina, Chloe, and Violet were close growing up. Marina is actually only a half-sister, the product of Lucas's first marriage, but had little contact with her birth mother growing up. She and Athena get along alright, but never really formed the mother-daughter bond. So different from her relationship with her sisters, which was easy and natural and complete.
Marina was always interested in people's stories. She scraped by living as a journalist, producing both for NPR and independent stations, through most of her twenties. Truthfully, she was only able to make it because she was with her older, lawyer boyfriend Michael. When Marina was able to co-found a show at her local radio station, an interview show delving into the lives of people in her community, she felt she was finally ready to start a family with Michael. Unfortunately, he never actually wanted kids. Her relationship fell apart. Her show was dropped from the network. She thought her life was over. But over the last four years, she's pulled it together. Her show lives on as a podcast. She's expanded the scope, traveling all across the nation to meet to people and talk to them. Part of her still longs for a child, but she doesn't see how her life could support it now. Nevermind her love life, which is almost non-existent.
Chloe's the type of person who knew what she wanted from the second she was born. Blessed with clarity, she navigated her way through high school and college in a precise, exact fashion. Junior year at UofM, she met her future husband, Miles Flynn. Four years later she married him. It all seemed so perfect. Until she realized nothing was perfect. She was working so hard - helping kids in the library all day, doing all of the housework at night. On the weekends, Miles went out with his friends, while she stayed home watching girly shows on Netflix. Even when he was there, he wasn't there. She thought about staying, really thought about it. The plan was to have a baby, and the plan had never failed her before. But in the end, she couldn't do it. She told Miles they needed to divorce, even though it devastated her.
Violet is a mix of both her sisters. Like Marina, she's thoughtful and artistic. She graduated college with a fine arts degree, which she claims she was translate into a career in comics ministration someday... you know, once she's done spending her winters working in the Ski Lodge to get money for her summer travels to South America or Thailand or the Greek Isles. She was also blessed with Chloe's certainty, but what she wants to do it see the world, every bit of it.
