The Sutherland Family
Bryan William Sutherland and Jennifer Alice [Hershey] Sutherland met their sophomore year in college on an abroad program in Sweden. While they both attended Colorado State University, they had never met prior to crossing the Atlantic. Bryan proposed shortly after their graduation from college, and they married a year following. Now, the two share an apartment in Denver where Bryan is a high school biology teacher and Jenn works in business logistics for a furniture-store chain in the region.

Year One | 2016
Bryan and Jenn were not expecting to have children so fast, but could not have been more excited to welcome a baby boy to the family. Connor William Suthererland was born on April 12, 2016. He was born with big blue eyes, and has brown hair like his mama (but it has natural body like his daddy). At only a few months old, Connor already has gravitated towards every kind of ball - from soccer, to whiffle, to bouncy. He just can't get enough of curling his little body around them. Bryan and Jenn are both eager to see what he becomes more interested in as he ages.

Year Two | 2017]
Bryan and Jenn were really hesitant to add another child to their family so soon after having Connor, but a unique opportunity came up to adopt a child from Bolivia. Jenn has always wanted to adopt a child, and she has always had a special relationship with Bolivia due to missionary programs her church works with every year. On November 1st, Connor was able to spend an extended vacation with Bryan's family while Bryan and Jenn flew to Bolivia for a couple weeks. They returned with five-year-old Alejo Martín. Alejo loves being a new brother, and while he is learning English from his adoptive parents, he us trying to teach Connor some basic Spanish.

Year Three | 2018
Bryan and Jenn decided to take a trip in February to visit Bryan's grandparents in Texas so they can meet Alejo. It's also Connor's first time leaving Colorado. They had a great time visiting Austin. Alejo's favorite part was trying out a bunch of sweets from all the food trucks.

Year Four | 2019
2019 was a pretty calm year for the Sutherland family. Bryan and Jenn tried to be more intentional with quality family time and avoid nonessential distractions. Bryan managed to get a big surprise at the end of the school year, though. Even though he has only been teaching at his school for the past few years, the students decided to honor him as Teacher of the Year.

Year Five | 2020
Things are getting pretty cramped in the Sutherland apartment. But happy hearts lead to a happy home, and Bryan and Jenn couldn't be happier with the arrival of a new baby boy. Little Reese Maxwell was born on June 1, 2020. He has the same wavy brown hair and blue eyes that Connor has. So many people have already commented on how similar Reese looks to baby pictures of Connor. But looks aren't their only similarity- Reese has also gravitated towards balls and other sports gear like his big brother. Connor has fallen in love with soccer (from Alejo's influence) and is determined to help his brother learn the basics of the game.

Year Six | 2021
Even though Jenn has loved her time working in the corporate world, Bryan is bringing in enough money that their family could afford to lose her paycheck. This has given Jenn the wonderful opportunity to leave her office behind and stay at home with her children. While Jenn wants to return to work eventually, she is really excited to have this time to enjoy the boys while they're still little. She also is looking forward to dabbing into other projects and hobbies that she could maybe turn into a business one day.

Year Seven | 2022
This has been the second year the Sutherland family has undergone career changes. Bryan has absolutely loved teaching the students at his school, but an amazing opportunity came up to teach genetics at his Alma Mater. Bryan absolutely loves working at the university setting - it seems like he's back home. For his first semester, he only taught one course in Introduction to Genetics. He's spent most of his time doing research for the university, which has been equally challenging and refreshing. He also loves getting free admission to sporting events with his ID, and takes every opportunity to take Alejo and Connor to games.

Year Eight | 2023
Jenn really thought she was done with having any more children, but God decided to give her the perfect birthday gift this year: a baby girl! Finally, more estrogen has been added to the family! Kendall Eliza greeted the world with her presence on February 8. Kendall has a head full of red curls (which looks so similar to Jenn's sister Abigail) and beautiful hazel eyes. Jenn and Bryan have never seen a happier baby. Her eyes are always drawn to vivid colors and she bounces around to whatever music is playing. The Sutherlands are couldn't be more thrilled with their happy girl.

Year Nine | 2024
After years of begging for a pet, the kids finally wore down Bryan and Jenn. Even though the boys really wanted a dog, Bryan and Jenn decided a kitten would be easier to care for. Bryan took Alejo and Connor to the humane society to adopt one, and the three of them fell in love with a tiny ginger kitten. Alejo named him Tigger because he reminded him of the Winnie the Pooh character.

Year Ten | 2025
After spending year after year cramped in their apartment, Bryan and Jenn finally made the leap to purchase their own house. While they really appreciated living small, they really felt that the children needed their own space. Since Kendall's birth, she has shared a room with her parents, while Connor and Reese have shared the second bedroom and the living room doubled as Alejo's bedroom. Now they live in a nice four-bedroom ranch house. Alejo loves having his own bedroom for privacy now that he's officially a teenager. Connor and Reese are still enjoying a shared room. And then Jenn loved decorating Kendall's room in a Little Mermaid/Under-the-Sea theme. Even Tigger has enjoyed all the extra space for running around. Everyone's favorite part, though, is having a backyard for the first time!!
