We were overjoyed to bring our daughter (now officially named Sofia) home last year. Suddenly becoming the parents of a transgender teenager comes with a steep learning curve, but hard work and love have paid off. Sofia is adjusting well to being part of a family. Much to her surprise she's come to enjoy school, especially English class. Making friends was a struggle at first, but with lots of support from us and therapist things have been getting better.
She picked Sofia as her new name for its use in both Romanian and English and for its meaning, "wisdom". In the middle she wanted a family name and finally settled on Margaret (thankfully we were able to talk her out of using Sarah's great-grandmother's name, Mildred).
