In the six years since the Johanssen family came to the US, they have changed a lot. Miran frequently travels back and forth to Sweden for work, and he sometimes takes one of the older kids with him. About once a year, all of them pack up and travel to Sweden to visit with old friends and family. Tori never did get her nursing license in the US, but works for a nonprofit company to help Swedish immigrants adjust to American culture.
Elissa, 17, is a junior in high school. She has discovered a love for cardmaking and scrapbooking, and is very creative. She has been dating a boy in her class named Charlie. The two of them have been dating for the past three months.
Aaron, 16, is a sophomore in high school and one of the stars on the school's soccer team. He loves the sport and hopes to go pro in a few years. Aaron is dating one of the girls in his class, Rebecca.
Eliah, 13, is in seventh grade this year. He loves to read and talk with friends. He plays soccer, but isn't nearly as into it as Aaron.
Silas, 11, is in fourth grade. He loves to play the keyboard and has been taking lessons from Miran to play the willow flute. He likes to learn about his Swedish heritage and enjoys their family trips to Sweden each year.
Juni, now 9, is in third grade. She loves to play soccer and spend time with her friends.
Maia, 6, is a quiet kindergartener. She was diagnosed with childhood leukemia at the age of fifteen months. After three rounds of chemotherapy, she was declared cancer free at the age of four. Her struggles have brought the family closer together. Miran and Tori still worry over her sometimes, but know that the older kids keep an even closer eye on her.
Levi, 4, is the youngest Johanssen child. He is an inquisitive little child with no apparent fear of the unknown. He is constantly getting into some sort of mischief, but he usually has one of his siblings around to get him out of trouble.
