This launched the two kingdoms into a decade long war, which resulted in a heavy loss of life and property. In the end, Wales came out strong, but took the hardest hit: the King had died in battle. The loss of King Simon meant there was to be a new king, a new monarch. But Prince Tristan, only 12, was too young to reign. His mother, Queen Mary, unable. Instead, the King's trusted right-hand man, and his first child, Thomas, was to become regent until Prince Tristan was old enough to reign as monarch.
