LaRe's KUY Royal Congrats: Round 2
Fondest greetings to you all. First and foremost, apologies for taking so long between rounds one and two; my zombie of a computer had finally decided to bite the dust two days ago, and has so far resisted all attempts to revive it.
Alas, it is for this reason that I fear I cannot keep up with all the myriad families very well. But don't worry--the show must go on, except now (and for the forseeable future), this congrats will be KUY, meaning that you will have to keep track of your own families by yourself. On the silver lining, however, this means that sign-ups are reopened. Again, apologies for the inconvenience.
Everyone gets a daughter this round!
The Prompt
A year and a half into their marriage, the Monarch and Consort are finally blessed with their first child: a daughter. However, both pregnancy and birth had been riddled with complications, and the baby girl spent her first couple weeks in a very weakened state before finally showing signs of recovery. How are the royal couple reacting to this rocky start? Was a daughter what they had hoped for?

Pretending these spellings are totally normal in their land.
This "chapter" will have to backtrack a little to tell a complete story.
Let's tell what's happened between the last "chapter" and this one.
Also, Savendir is pronounced SAV-vehn-deer.
Ecafor (EH-kah-fore) is the capital where Bruna Castle is located. Ecafor is an anagram of A-Force.
This one gets a little risqué during the diary excerpts. This is your warning. Skip the italics if you actually read this and don’t want to read that part.
After meeting Crispyn, Ciprian had convinced Macsén to handle things happening in Ecafor and allow him to go to Savendir and visit Crispyn's mother.
The journey from the capital to Savendir took three days. Father and son sat side by side on the way to the city and discussed everything they could think of. Ciprian told the boy he enjoyed falconry. Crispyn told the King he enjoyed drawing and even promised to draw his picture once they were settled somewhere. They discussed songs they liked and stories they had been told. Ciprian told Crispyn stories about the stars and Crispyn told Ciprian stories he and his friends had made up while playing around the stream near his home. Both of them admitted to having sometimes pretended they were pirates and sometimes pretending they fought dragons and sea monsters. On the second day, Crispyn fell asleep against Ciprian's side hours into the journey and it was all Ciprian could do not to pull the child to him and hold him tightly.
The worn out, feverish girl he was met with upon arriving at the Nolwyn cottage was nothing he remembered of the Tullie he once knew. She was weary and hard to understand, her voice so weak from the illness.
Crispyn was curled up next to her in a matter of seconds, but almost immediately his grandmother was yelling at him to wash up from the road.

King: Airdan Blackfern
Queen: Soora Wolfriver
Son?: Rankin Icefrost
Crown Princess: Enola Wolffern
Of the illustrious Royal House of: Ayen
In the Kingdom of: Tavaraen
Problems started showing up early in Soora's pregnancy. For a few months no one could figure out what was wrong. Airdan was in a state of panic until the healers were finally able to determine what was causing some of the problems. Soora was pregnant with twins.
It was good news at first.
Soora went into labor about a month early. Developmental issues that had been the source of some of the problems caused both babies to be born small and weak. The smaller and weaker of the two died a few weeks later, but the other one managed to survive a month. And then two months. And then three.
Either gender could inherit the throne, and with so many complications Soora and Airdan hadn't really been hoping for specifically a son or a daughter but rather just for a healthy child. As a fourth month passed and their surviving daughter grew stronger it seemed likely that they had gotten what they wished for. Feeling confident that the infant would survive, they named Enola and made her their heir.

Empress: Demeter Azura Wei "Demi"
Princess Consort: Gemina Hermione Estel "Gem" (Simonides)
Son?/Royal Ward: Nikodemos Shang "Niko" (Karmen)
Crown Princess: Iris Thaleia Seren "Leia"
Of the illustrious Royal House of: Jiang
In the Empire of: Lai Shi
Honestly, getting pregnant was the worst idea Demi ever had. She vomits so much during the first trimester that she becomes dangerously dehydrated, spends the second trimester just trying to recover from that, and then suffers through numerous early labour scares and almost comically swollen feet (all the way up to her knees!) from virtually the very beginning of the third. She can barely get out of bed for the majority of nine months and has to let her advisers and Consort essentially rule in her stead. But in the end (after many hours of grueling labour) she finally has an heir the people would accept without complaint: a child of her own body.
(It really is no business of anyone's beyond her own and Gem's who the biological father is, though some "insiders" strongly suspect a young alchemist named Leofric Archibald, a childhood friend of Gem and former classmate of both Gem and Demi at university who happened to be visiting Lai Shi around the right time.)
The new Crown Princess has to wait a while for a name, because while Gem holds their new little daughter to Demi's chest and tries to be supportive and encouraging and not let on how terrified she is, the court physician (Weaver) fights to keep Demi herself from dying due to a massive hemorrhage. But finally, once the immediate danger has passed, Demi and Gem settle on Iris Thaleia Seren.
But little Leia is heavily jaundiced and just wants to sleep, and it becomes a constant battle to wake her at all to feed. Demi develops an awful case of mastitis, but refuses the sage potion offered by Weaver, insisting that she needs to feed her baby - who, after all, is steadily losing weight. They could, of course, employ a wet nurse easily enough if need be, but the problem of a baby who needs milk but won't take it and a mother who has too much hardly seems logically solved by a wet nurse.

The first daughter of Aurelia and Leonidas was born almost three months early and for first month it was not sure if she would survive. King Cadfael Aneurin Llyr Geraint
Queen Consort Naiara Josune Maialen
Cadfael's son: Ieuan Calder Medraut
Princess Eira Josefina Iseult Seren
of the illustrious Royal House of Argall-Jasso
in the Kingdom of Egremont
Almost a year after Ieuan came to the Royal Keep and was presented to all the court as Cadfael's natural son, Queen Naiara discovered she was with child. She and Cadfael were ecstatic, of course - perhaps Cadfael more so at the prospect of an heir to the throne. After all, his own father had had four sons, and Cadfael was determined to surpass old Alwyn in every respect.
But the pregnancy was exceedingly difficult for Naiara, to the point that she was confined to her bed for most of it. In the end, she gave birth to a sickly girl nearly two months prematurely. The Court physicians weren't optimistic that the baby would live. Cadfael spent every spare moment at the bedside of his wife and daughter until one day, against all odds, the princess began to show signs of improvement. The physicians were completely baffled, but Cadfael wept tears of joy and said his little Eira was strong like her mother. He immediately ordered a banquet be held in her honor, and the whole kingdom rejoiced with the king and queen.

King: William Theodore II "Theo"
Queen: Sylvia Grand
Ward: Frederick Lawrence
Princess: Natalia Iris
Of the illustrious Royal House of: William
In the Kingdom of: Serronia
Just prior to their first anniversary, King Theo and Queen Sylvia made the announcement that they were expecting a baby. Of course, that sent the kingdom into an uproar, and suddenly the royal baby was all the rage: would it be a boy or girl? what would the baby weigh? what would they name the baby? was the queen eating the right foods?
A few months later, Sylvia became ill and was rarely seen in public. Rumor had it that the doctors had confined her to bed so that the baby would survive. Finally, someone let it slip that Queen Sylvia had gone into labor. The kingdom waited eagerly (and anxiously) for news of the baby's birth. Nearly two days passed before news arrived that the royal baby was a girl, but that she was very sickly and not expected to survive. Against all odds, she did--King Theo sending for the best medical doctors in the world. On the one month anniversary of her birth, King Theo and Queen Sylvia held a christening ceremony for Princess Natalia Iris.

Daughter: Archduchess Louise Claudia Maria Elisabetta
Of the illustrious Royal House of: Koring-Pulitzer-Wright
In the Kingdom of: Stranzburg
Born at 31 weeks gestation, Archduchess Louise spent the first 5 weeks of her life in the hospital as her little lungs developed. Thankfully she had no major complications, and is now home in the palace with her family. Her parents cannot stop staring at their little princess and big brother Johann has been showing lots of interest. Empress Monica was concerned about how differently she would feel about Louise and Johann, since the later is not her biological child, but seeing Johann with Louise has only increased her maternal love for him and strengthened the bond of their family.

Consort: Tarquin Alexius Tenley
Ward: Edmund Taggart
Princess: Theodora Rosalind Valeria
Of the illustrious Royal House of: Lyon
In the Kingdom of: Ybern
Tarquin has been forced to take up most of the royal duties during the latter part of Beatrice's pregnancy. It wasn't too jarring of a transition, as they tended to work together already. Things were even more hectic after the birth, as he wanted to be there for his growing family but also had to be there for the country. Even as little Theodora recovers, he insists Beatrice take some more time off to rest, which she does not mind doing. She plans to gradually ease back into activity in ruling.
There is some debate whether to declare Theodora the Crown Princess, or if should a son be born that he will be named heir. Beatrice supports her daughter as her heir, but the council has not yet made a decision, likely waiting to see if a male heir is born. The fact that the girl was sickly was also a concern, as they don't know if that will cause problems in the future. But they also don't know how well Beatrice will bear another child. Thus the declaration of the heir remains in limbo.

Of the illustrious Royal House of: Romelli
In the Kingdom of: Gretalia
When Andreas's mother passed away, he had no relatives or family friends to take care of him. Nicolas felt responsible, even though it isn't his son. Neither he or Katerina wanted, or felt like they could, adopt him. However, Nicolas's brother and his wife found out they couldn't have children on their own a while ago They decided to adopt Andreas, who now is a part of the Royal Family.
Not long after the adoption, Queen Katerina found out she was pregnant. She told Nicolas right away and he was - of course - overjoyed and very proud. Katerina didn't have an easy pregnancy though. She had a very bad headache, nausea and felt very weak. Nicolas and the doctors helped her every way that they could to help her. Three months before the due that, Katerina was diagnosed with preeclampsia which got worse by the day. A few weeks later, their baby girl was born prematurely. The girl was very small and weak, and for a while the doctors wasn't sure if she would survive. Eventually she began to recover - to blossom - and for that reason the royal couple decided to name their beloved daughter Thalia.

King: Farin, son of Frár
King: Ibûn, son of Torbûn
Adopted son: Tyr
Crown princess: Eira
Of the illustrious Royal House of: Durin
In the Kingdom of: Erebor
Farin decided to have a child due to pressure from the rest of the royal house and the people of Erebor. Ibûn agreed and was ready for another child, knowing how to finally handle Tyr at age 2,5. Tyr is excited to have a baby sister, though he'd have preferred a baby brother.
Farin and ibûn thought it would be best to get a surrogate mother - they contacted some other dwarf kingdoms, as they figured a mother from Erebor would maybe be shunned by or lose reputation amongst the people. A princess of another kingdom offered herself, and she carried the child; Farin thought it best to have a mother of nobility, to avoid further controversy. They formed a strong friendship. Ibûn was jealous at times, but Farin promised him that if they were to have a another child, it would be Ibûn's.
After the medics had declared the young princess stable, her mother left for her own kingdom again - though they'd mutually agreed that she could come visit whenever she liked.
A daughter was fine; there were no set rules about heirs, so a girl could succeed Farin onto the throne. They're just happy she's finally healthy.

Once little Fredrika was born a year and half after her parents marriage despite the joy of a new heir being born, the whole country had to held their breath again. Not because the baby was a girl, Sweden has been practicing absolute cognatic primogeniture for centuries after all, it was the little girls health that was a concern here. Being born two months prematurely and after a rather complicated birth, Lovisa and Peter had spend many hours hovering above the incubator that held their little daughter praying that she'll get better soon.
Their prayers have been heard and little Fredrika had left the hospital a week ago doing a lot better. Now after all the initial worry is gone, Lovisa and Peter are enjoying their little daughter they wished for and her big brother thinks she is the best thing ever, already showing streaks of protectiveness towards the infant.

King: Johan Fredrik Valdemar Axel
Queen concort: Amalia Elisabeth Marie
Son: Duke Jakob Kristian
Daughter: Princess Iris Johanna Eulalia Mary
Of the illustrious House of: Oxenstierna
In the Kingdom of: Sweden
Johan and Amelia are of course deeply shaken and concerned for their daughter's health, but they have great trust in the doctors and when little Iris is finally starting to improve and getting stronger every day they feel great joy and relief.
It doesn't matter to them that their first child is a girl, she is much loved by everyone, including young Duke Jakob. Besides, there are plenty of time to have an male heir.

Prince: Michele Rinieri Lorenzo
Wife: Caterina Maria Annunziata
DS: Pietro Cristofano [Tancredi] "Perotto"
DD: Giovanna Maria Elisabetta "Vanozza"
Of the illustrious Royal House of: Manco
In the City-State of: Salvi
A year and a half after Perotto's introduction to their family, Caterina gave birth to her and Michele's first child. After eight months of anxious waiting, most of which Caterina spent bed-ridden and swarmed by maids and physicians, the baby was born prematurely, small and red and frighteningly weak. Every chance he had, Michele slipped away from his study to attend to his ill wife and daughter, and even Perotto kept escaping his tutor to check on his Mamma.
It wasn't until both young Vanozza and Caterina had recovered that both Michele and Perotto finally could breathe free. Legitimacy not being as strong an issue as it would become in the upcoming centuries, nobody was truly worried that Michele would lack an heir should anything happen to him, but Michele was concerned how any future pregnancies would affect his wife's health.
